Artist Statement:
As an artist, I am captivated by the power of movement within composition. From the very beginning of my journey, I was drawn to works that seemed to pulse with life. For me, capturing a moment of movement in a static form speaks volumes. It’s not just about what you see in the art, but also about the story it tells—where it's been, where it's going, and where it might lead.
As I age, I find myself increasingly focused on the heart of the artwork: the story it conveys. Movement, to me, is more than a visual element; it is the very essence of the narrative. I believe that through movement stories unfold.
Biography:
Mark Smith was born and raised in Palm Springs California. After graduation high school Mark attended trade school at Arizona automotive institute to find a stable career and fund a future in art. Upon completing his education Mark found himself working in the oil field of south eastern New Mexico where he currently resides.
Artist practice:
Marks work spans from a range of mediums including Gypsum rock, Marble, Bronze, steel, ceramics, mirror, oil and acrylic paint. Using both traditional and experimental techniques Marks goal is fusing medium not normally seen together like rock, steel and bronze.
The journey of Legacy art studios
Mark Smith, has been crafting for more than 30 years, from designing mascots for his elementary school to creating massive sculptures. His senior year of high school, Mark’s first major appearance into the art scene was at the California State Fair winning first place, best of show and the golden bear award. He then began work as an apprentice in Wyoming for an artist, where he made conceptual sketches along with the models for monument pieces, showcasing his early phenomenal talent.
Although truly talented, Mark decided to put his dreams of becoming an artist aside to focus on raising his growing family. While his career in the art world hit pause, Mark never stopped making art.Years later, Destiny was inspired by her father’s talent. Growing up immersed in the beauty of Mark’s work, Destiny developed a passion for art as she watched and helped her father create.
Destiny started Legacy Art Studios with her father to give him the chance to be the full-time artist he always wanted to be. She aims to honor the amazing legacy of Mark and bring his brilliance back into the world through Legacy Art Studios. Mark's artwork, such as sculptures, paintings, and mirror etchings, always manages to move the hearts of those who see them. His rock and bronze sculptures are a testament to his years of work, showcasing him not just as a sculpture, but as an artist with an undeniable gift.
