Artist Inspiration

Art was not just a passion for me growing up, it was a calling. Of all the artists who inspired me , Michelangelo was of the highest. His talent in bringing stone to life etched itself into my soul. I wanted to to understand the process of sculpting rock as he did. It wasn’t long before I decided to chase that dream.

In 2004, my path intersected with that of Native American artist Vincent Kaydahzinne, a master sculptor who walked me through the techniques and intricacies of working with stone. Though I lacked the proper tools, I was driven by a deep hunger to learn. With a single rock in my hands and an insatiable desire to learn, I began.

As I worked, memories of my childhood dreams flooded my mind. I thought about how long I had imagined this moment, how many times I had envisioned myself sculpting just like the greats. With each struggle, I felt a wave of gratitude wash over me I wasn’t just chiseling away at a rock; I was chipping away at years of limitations, and I was doing what I had always dreamed of.

After the sculpture was finished, it was donated and sold—something I was not anticipating but was grateful for. Ironically, after years of putting my dreams on hold this same sculpture has made its way back to me. Now as I stand before it im reminded of the journey that got me here.

Reminiscent isn’t just a sculpture; it’s a symbol of persistence, of dreams pursued, and of the unexpected turns life takes. It’s about the process of creation, the joy of overcoming obstacles, and the bittersweet beauty of coming full circle. As I reflect on it now, I realize that the journey is as meaningful as the art itself.
